   let x = student tickets

   then 400 – x = adult tickets

   $2 * x + $3 * (400 – x) = $1050

   2x +1200 – 3x = 1050

   -x = -150

   x = 150 (Student Tickets)

   400 – x = 250 (Adult Tickets)

   Check: 150 * 2 + 250 * 3 = 1050

   300 + 750 = 1050

   1050 = 1050 CHECK

   let x=number of students
   let y=number of adults

   x+y=400
   2x+3y=1050

   Solve either equation fo x or y then substitute it in the other equation.

   y=400-x
   then
   2x+3(400-x)=1050

   x=150 students since x+y=400 then y=250 adults.
